AI@UNC is Carolina's premier student organization focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Our organization partners our engineers with faculty, research labs, and each other to collaborate on meaningful technical projects and build impactful tools that are deployed. Additionally, we offer a Competition Team representing our organization to participate at the highest levels of competitive AI/ML.
Students are given support from our experienced Technical Chairs throughout the year, who help oversee projects, guide our students, anticipate challenges, and ensure productivity. Students then have the opportunity to present their work to faculty, industry, and their peers at our end of year AI@UNC I/O event .
We believe in preparing our engineers with an industry level technical skillset and collaborative experience, while also cultivating a forward thinking, ethical, and innovative engineering philosophy. Hence, we offer our Literature Division as a rigorous examination of artificial intelligence as a civilizational and cultural force rather than merely a technology. We facilitate discussions that prioritize depth, disagreement, and intellectual risk to examine AI’s cultural and philosophical implications on society.
Project teams provide an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic field of AI. Work on real technical applications in a collaborative setting while receiving structured guidance from experienced Technical Chairs.

As the culminating end-of-year conference for our organization, AI@UNC I/O provides our engineers with a platform to present their technical projects to faculty, industry recruiters, engineers, students, and their families.
Each team presents a formal research poster inside the venue, interspersed with spotlight stage presentations during designated time slots. The event reflects the depth and seriousness of the work produced throughout the year.
